Artist's Comments

Figured it was about time to break the string of Final Fantasy for a second, so here's one from another of my favorite RPGs, Chrono Cross. Basically, he's Mojo--a voodoo doll come to life, and a fun character to sculpt.

In retrospect, there are some details I'd have liked to make cleaner, but overall I'm reasonably happy with him. The pose is straight from then-Squaresoft's artwork. He'll only get the one angle, as the only thing that a side view might help with is to see the nail punched through his little wicker chest. Hope you likie.

Mojo & Chrono Cross are (c) Square-Enix

---------------EDIT---------------

So, poor Mojo's been Lucasized too:ohnoes:. I chose to just replace the original image because, well, it's basically just a background, with Mojo still the featured element. That, and the glow added to the candles, but made sure to make it not too strong to hide the sculpt of the flames themselves.

Thanks very much to those who have commented, :+fav:ed, and featured this piece already, and hope you don't mind the change! :ahoy:

heh, as much as I dislike Chrono Cross, Mojo was always a cool character idea. Very nice.

Thanks! Yeah, I always liked Mojo too. Did you like Chrono Trigger at least?

Glad you liked it! I always like doing more quirky characters every now and then--it works as a nice breather in between the more mega-pieces. For instance, I did Safer Sephiroth (which took forever and a day), and then right after that, I did a Flan.

Okay, that, and the more comical ones tend to be a lot easier to do:).

Chrono Trigger is one of my all time favorite games. Thats actually part of the reason I don't like Chrono Cross. :p

Gotcha. I thought Cross was great, but I agree it's nowhere near as good as Trigger, which was (and still is) amazing. I did kind of like that you had to dig a bit for the connections between the two, and how they were buried in dialogue, rather than being overtly obvious, though.

I just hope its not a PS3 exclusive, so I can plays it on my 360.

Unfortunately, Chrono Break has been dead for quite some time. They bought the domain name, which has since lapsed, I believe. The last word from Square-Enix was that the project was abandoned since too many of the original team was scattered to other projects and companies, and the game would suffer as a result, not to mention being lacking in that "Chrono feel." Sad--very sad, but true. :(

Aww. :(

I suppose thats no suprise, really, since three of the key figures from the original Chrono Trigger team split off from Sqeenix to become part of Mistwalker (Sakaguchi, Toriyama, and Nobuo... though Sakaguchi actually founded Mistwalker).

hmm...

I suppose you could call Blue Dragon a spiritual sequel, though its no where near as good.

I've heard Blue Dragon wasn't up to all the hype, but I suppose it could be considered a spiritual successor or sorts (although you'd have to include Yasunori Mitsuda to share composing duties with Nobuo, who's actually freelance rather than part of Mistwalker).

That said, I've never been that big a fan of Toriyama's art. I liked the designs in Cross much more than Trigger's. However, I think the designs and soundtrack are the only edges it has over the original.
